Presentation=nervous....am i right?

We're just finish our group presentation about 'NOW AND THEN' last monday..there are many mistakes that we did in our presentation..so,to improve our presentation skills, i've seached in the internet abaout how to prepare the presentation that give the impact to the audiences. So, friends, take a minute to read this post...(^_~)

Here are the Top 10 effective presentation techniques.

1. Use visual aids
Using pictures in your presentations instead of words can double the chances of meeting your objectives.

2. Keep it short and sweet
There is an old adage that said - “No one ever complained of a presentation being too short.” Nothing kills a presentation more than going on too long.

There are some college professors who will penalise a short presentation (most lecturers see no problem in droning on) , but for most people a shorter presentation is better. Keep your presentation to under 22 minutes if you can.

3. Use the rule of three
A simple technique is that people tend to only remember three things. Work out what the three messages that you want your audience to take away and structure your presentation around them. Use a maximum of three points on a slide.

4. Rehearse
Practice makes for perfect performance. Many experts say that rehearsal is the biggest single thing that you can do to improve your performance. Perform your presentation out loud at least four times. One of these should be in front of a real scary audience. Family, friends or colleagues. Even the dog is better than nothing.

5. Tell stories
All presentations are a type of theatre. Tell stories and anecdotes to help illustrate points. It all helps to make your presentation more effective and memorable.

6. Lose the bullet points - don’t put your speaker notes up on the screen
Bullet points are the kiss of death for most presentations. Most people use bullet points as a form of speaker notes. To make your presentation more effective put your speaker notes in your notes and not up on the screen.

7. Video yourself
Set up a video camera and video yourself presenting. You will see all sorts of mistakes that you are making, from how you are standing, if you are jangling keys, to how well your presentation is structured.

8. Know what slide is coming next
You should always know when presenting which slide is coming up next. It sounds very powerful when you say “On the next slide [Click] you will see…”, rather than than a period of confusion when the next slide appears.

9. Have a back-up plan
Murphy’s law normally applies during a presentation. Technology not working, power cuts, projector blowing a bulb, spilling coffee on your front, not enough power leads, no loudspeakers, presentation displays strangely on the laptop - all of these are things that have happened in presentations that I have given.
Have a back-up plan. Take with you the following items - a printed out set of slides - (you can hold these up to the audience if you need to), a CD or data stick of your presentation, a laptop with your slides on it. Just in case it goes wrong.
Guess what? When you have back-ups - you seldom need to use them.

10. Check out the presentation room
Arrive early and check out the presentation room. If you can make sure that you see your slides loaded onto the PC and working on the screen. Work out where you will need to stand.

As a becoming engineers, it is vitally important for us to be able to communicate our thoughts and ideas effectively, using a variety of tools and medium. We need to develop and use this skill when we attend job interviews and especially when we start working in the big wide world. But, it is often said that engineers do not possess the ability to communicate well. Lets change the mindset about engineers. All we need to do to give the best presentation is PRACTICE!!(^_~)v

TRAIN.....NOW AND THEN....

In daily life, people usually have to travel some distances in order to reach their workplace, to visit their friends or just hanging out. Immerial, various transport has been created to facilitate public. One of them is train. In this essay, i would like to talk about the pros and cons between the old train and the new train.

There are some similarities between these two version of trains. The first one is about the movement. Both of this vehicles move along a track called railway.Typical railway tracks consist of two parallel rails, normally made of steel, secured to crossbeams. The second one is the waiting station. As we all know, we have to wait for the train at the station that provided to us. And the last one is the driver. All train are controlled by the driver. Without a man called driver, the train will not be able to move.

Next, lets look at their contrasts. The major difference that we can see in both trains is the speed. The old train moves slow than the new train because it used steam to generate the electricity while the new one used electricity and diesel fuel for power. Then, the second difference is the environment. Inside the steam locomotive there is water and a fire to heat the water to make the steam. When it is moving, there is a great amount of steam or smoke coming out from the stack. Compare to the modern locomotive, there is no smoke coming out when it moved because it used electricity to make the wheels go round. Last but not least, inside the train. There are a lot of improvements have been made to the train. As before, there is no cushion seat is provide to the passenger to sit. But now, not only the cushion seat, in fact, there is a television provided in the train to passenger to get rid of bored when they go for a long distances.

In conclusion, i think that travelling by train could be really amazing. Whether the new train or the old train, you can enjoy your journey seeing the view outside the window. Besides, train is much more secure in most of the cases anad the bad atmosphere conditions don't affect it. If i have to travel for longer distances, I may consider to take the train as my transport.

exam just around the corner?butterflies in ur stomach?

Test Anxiety...

WHAT IS TEST ANXIETY?
Too much anxiety about a test is commonly referred to as test anxiety. It is perfectly natural to feel some anxiety when preparing for and taking a test. In fact, a little anxiety can jump start your studying and keep you motivated. However, too much anxiety can interfere with your studying. You may have difficulty learning and remembering what you need to know for the test. Further, too much anxiety may block your performance during the test. You may have difficulty demonstrating what you know during the test.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE TEST ANXIETY?
You probably have test anxiety if you answer YES to four or more of the following:
1. I have a hard time getting started studying for a test.

2. When studying for a test, I find many things that distract me.

3. I expect to do poorly on a test no matter how much or how hard I study.

4. When taking a test, I experience physical discomfort such as sweaty palms, an upset stomach, a headache, difficulty breathing, and tension in my muscles.

5. When taking a test, I find it difficult to understand the directions and questions.

6. When taking a test, I have difficulty organizing my thoughts.

7. When taking a test, I often “draw a blank.”

8. When taking a test, I find my mind wandering to other things.

9. I usually score lower on a test than I do on assignments and papers.

10. After a test, I remember information I couldn’t recall during the test.

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT TEST ANXIETY?
Here are some things you can do before, during, and after a test to reduce your test anxiety.

1. Use good study techniques to gain cognitive mastery of the material that will be covered on the test. This mastery will help you to approach the test with confidence rather than have excessive anxiety.

2. Maintain a positive attitude as you study. Think about doing well, not failing. Think of the test as an opportunity to show how much you have learned.

3. Go into the test well rested and well fed. Get enough sleep the night before the test. Eat a light and nutritious meal before the test. Stay away from junk foods.

4. Stay relaxed during the test. Taking slow, deep breaths can help. Focus on positive self-statements such as “I can do this.”

5. Follow a plan for taking the test .Don’t panic even if you find the test difficult. Stay with your plan!

6. Don’t worry about other students finishing the test before you do. Take the time that you need to do your best.

7. Once you finish the test and hand it in, forget about it temporarily. There is nothing more you can do until the graded test is returned to you. Turn your attention and effort to new assignments and tests.

8. When the graded test is returned to you, analyze it to see how you could have done better. Learn from your mistakes and from what you did well. Apply this knowledge when you take the next test.

You have to know the material to do well on a test. You have to control test anxiety to show what you know. Dont get too nervous. or else you will forget what you have learned for your test. Hopefully this tips will help you to overcome your test anxiety guys!!GOOD LUCK!!!

Foods That Can Help Protect Your Eyesight

What you put on your plate now may help you see the plate later....

From Reader's Digest - February 2009

New research reveals foods that help protect against three leading age-related vision thieves:

1. Glaucoma. Just one serving a month of kale or collard greens or more than two servings of carrots a week reduced the risk of glaucoma by more than 60 percent in a UCLA study of 1,000 women. Scientists believe that high levels of vitamin A and other antioxidants in these veggies help protect crucial cells in the optic nerve.

2. Cataracts. Adults who regularly drink orange juice and also include C-rich foods such as red and green bell peppers, tomatoes, and broccoli in their daily diet are 45 percent less likely to develop cataracts, according to new research from Australia. Vitamin C may help counteract the lens-clouding effects of light and heat.

3. Macular degeneration. Eating oatmeal, high-fiber cereals, and whole-grain breads cuts the risk of macular degeneration by about 39 percent, shows a recent study. Complex carbs prevent blood sugar swings that can damage delicate cells in the center of the retina.

so...for those who wants their eyes looks beautiful..try this tips..its worth it...believe me..(^_^)

7 Lies Men Tell Women.....

7 Lies Men Tell Women.....

He says he loves you in that dress, but should you believe him?
By Dr. Joyce Brothers.

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, love's predictably on everyones minds. The topic of trust is an important factor in all matters of the heart -- and here's why. Men lie to women. Women lie to men. And most people agree that some lying is even necessary -- to avoid petty squabbles and to grease the wheels of a relationship. But there are crucial differences in the lies women and men tell. A study by psychologist Bella M. DePaulo of the University of Virginia found that when women lie, they tend to focus on making others feel better -- such as the woman who tells her hostess that dinner is "simply delicious" even as she cringes with every mouthful. At the heart of many men's lies, however, is the male ego. Men lie to build themselves up or to conceal something, DePaulo says. According to psychologist Michael Lewis in the book Lying and Deception in Everyday Life, men are more likely to lie to enhance themselves than women are.

Here, are some of the most common lies men tell women:

1. "Me? I graduated top of my class."

Men have a hard time admitting failure. How our culture defines success is important to a man, so he assumes it's important to his partner.

2. "Of course I like your friends!"

Ego-stroking statements that turn out to be total lies may be designed to cover up opposite feelings -- for instance, when a man says he values his wife's work but actually doesn't consider it important. Such lies can signal serious problems ahead, whether it's dealing with child care, vacation plans or career moves.

3. "Honey, you're the best."

One of the most lied-about subjects has to be sex. Perhaps that's because it's the area where we are most vulnerable. Here again men are likely to lie. In the first rush of romance it makes sense for a man to engage in exaggerated praise of a woman's beauty and sexuality. But "you're the best" lies can paralyze a relationship.

4. "No, I can't call you. I don't even know where I'll be."

These are the sad lies, the ones he tells because he's falling out of love. The more quickly a woman seeks the truth behind these lies, the sooner she can remedy the relationship -- or, if necessary, end it. As one friend puts it, "I'd rather have the ax fall than slip down the endless slope of uncertainty and frustration."

5. "That dress isn't too tight. It looks great!"

By and large, these are the good lies -- the ones that show he cares. But kind lies can be too much of a good thing if a man habitually says only what his partner wants to hear. It sets the woman up for rude awakenings. After all, if the dress she's wearing really is too tight, has he done her a favor? Far better is the tactful truth: "I usually love what you wear, honey, but it just doesn't look quite as good this time."

6. "They're downsizing at work. But don't worry. They won't get me."

Many men still feel paternalistic about the women they love, so they lie to spare them worry. But these lies can destroy the very sense of confidence that the man hoped to create. And they can make a woman feel she is not a respected partner in the relationship.

7. "Sure, I'll mow the lawn -- as soon as this crick in my back goes away."

There are few things that trouble a man more than a woman's anger -- or nagging, as he calls it -- so he lies to avoid a scene. It is in "hassle-prevention lying" that men can demonstrate their greatest versatility.

well... i agree with this article. men need to develop the courage to drop the defense mechanisms that bolster their egos and pride, and search for true intimacy with their mates. Telling the truth to a spouse is the first step toward showing that love is more important than lies. In a relationship, honesty and trust are very important. We have to be honest to ourselves as well as to our partner. Do not start lie to your partner. Once you lied, you will be comfort to tell the lie many times.
